Propeller Repair & Fabrication
Desktop models are usually handcrafted overseas by a wide variety of craftsmen using different scale sizes and styles. Therefore the more information you can give me, the easier it will be to help you.
FOR MODELS WITH DAMAGED PROPELLERS- The simplest approach is to attach digital photos to an email showing your damaged propeller next to a ruler or similar measuring device for scale. If a digital photo is not possible then include a detailed description of your propeller (see items1-9 below under customers with lost or missing propellers) along with your contact information for shipping and estimating postage. Please use gif and jpg formats on your digital photo attachments.
Please keep in mind that each missing blade has to be handcrafted and painted, which is time consuming and varies depending on the blade size and detail. A broken propeller with all the pieces intact can be repaired for roughly $15 plus shipping. A propeller that's missing blades can cost $15 to $20 per blade or possibly less if I have a similar blade as a match.
Shipping is extra (via USPS, it's roughly $5 for a small box without insurance.) Please do not include the entire plane model, display stand, etc. all I need is the broken propeller, thank you : ) I will return your propeller using the same box and packing material that you originally provided, so please pack it well and make sure it will fit after the repair(s) have been made! An FYI on UPS or Fed Ex signed deliveries: Though I do make every effort to be accessible, I can't guarantee I will be available during the day for receiving a signature package. Fed Ex can deliver anytime between 7 a.m. 7 p.m.!
FOR MODELS WITH LOST OR MISSING PROPELLERS- For a complete handcrafted replacement propeller the cost is $15-$35 a propeller depending on the size and scale. I'll need as much of the following information as you can give me:
1. The manufacturer: (Examples: Factory Direct Models, TMC Pacific, etc.)
2. Type of model plane: (Examples: Cessna 340, Spitfire, B-17, etc.)
3. The tip to tip wing length (if you don't know the model's scale.)
4. The hole diameter size (see photo below). It's usually one of these three sizes: 1/16 3/32 1/8.
5. The number of blades on the propeller.
6. The blade colors (Examples: Black propeller with yellow tips or gray propeller with a white stripe with a white tip)
7. The propeller's shaft length (see photo below). The propeller shaft is what the propeller spins on and the piece that fits into the body of the plane.
8. The propeller's tip to tip length (see photo below) or the measurement from the "Spinner" to the propeller tip, either measurement one will work.
9. Shipping Information: Name, shipping address and if you want shipping insurance. Shipping is extra (via USPS, it's roughly $5 for a small box without insurance.)
Any additional digital photos of your model or reference material that you can include would also be very helpful.
You can start my emailing me here thank you!
TERMS OF SALE: When I receive your digital photographs (gif and jpg formats only!) I will email you a preliminary estimate. When I receive your propeller I will send you a final estimate for approval. Once the propeller is repaired, I will send you an email with an attached photo of the work completed (to date) and an invoice that will include the total now due, along with return shipping and optional insurance. After receipt of payment, I will return your propeller using the same box and packing material you originally provided , so please pack it well! I cannot be responsible for prep or repair work done by others; however, I can try to fix it for you! The utmost care is always taken in handling propellers, but I am not responsible for damage due to manufacturing flaws or shipping (consider insurance please). I will hold a repaired propeller 30 days after the invoice has been emailed for payment due. After 30 days without payment in full the propeller will become my property. I accept money orders and personal checks (10 - 15 days to clear.)
Please make checks payable to: Tim Oxley Model Works... Thank you.
SHIPPING INFORMATION:
1. When sending a re-usable box please allow enough room for the new repair to fit.
2. I recommend USPS Priority Mail with insurance; it is less expensive by far and there's no handling charge. Of course, the choice is yours, just let me know how you want your model returned. Please note that Parcel Post, UPS or FedEx must be hand delivered (unless you supply the UPS or FedEx paperwork), therefore a handling charge may be applied to the total.
3. If you want shipping insurance please email the insured amount as soon as possible.
4. UPS charges do vary slightly day to day due to fuel prices.
5. If a propeller needs to be repacked it will be done at the UPS store unless the customer makes other arrangements.
6. Though I do make every effort to be accessible, I can't guarantee I will be available during the day for receiving a signature package. For example, FedEX can deliver anytime between 7am to 7pm. Please take this into consideration when shipping.
Thank you for your support and interest!
